Grow Large Sunflower (Adventurers) 3
We have devised Seven (7) areas in which each club will need to excel if they are to be in the running to lift the challenge trophy at the end of 2021. These seven areas are as follow:
- Complete Curriculum
- Complete Advance Curriculum
- Bake Off Competition - Adventurers
- Bake Off Competition - Pathfinders
- Club Staff Challenge
- Club Administration Challenge
- Grow Own Food
Complete the Curriculum
As the main work of the Pathfinder and Adventurer is to complete their class requirements each year, this area has a greater weighting than any other area. Please see the points allocation table for more details.
Complete the Advance Curriculum
We are grateful to God that our clubs are getting stronger and stronger each year. We now want to encourage more children to complete the advance requirements. While we see this as possible for some children, we do not want leaders and counsellor to pressure Pathfinders who do not want to work on the advanced requirements. So, we have included this as an area for the challenge trophy but have given it a very low weighting. Please see the points allocation table for more details.
Bake Off Competition – Adventurers
We like to encourage our Pathfinders and Adventurers to develop new skills and are aware that some may find their life’s work from experiences had in Adventurers. We have held a Bake off before and it was a great success. We have included this as an area again this year and hope to see even more clubs participating. Please see the points allocation table for more details.
Bake Off Competition – Pathfinders
We like to encourage our Pathfinders and Adventurers to develop new skills and are aware that some may find their life’s work from experiences had in Pathfinders. We have held a Bake off before and it was a great success. We have included this as an area again this year and hope to see even more clubs participating. Please see the points allocation table for more details.
Participate in SEC Fair
One hundred points would be award to all club which participate in this years SEC Fair.
Club Administration Challenge
We have noticed that there is still room for improvements when it comes to club administration in some clubs. So, we have added this as an area to be worked on as you aspire to life the trophy at the end of the year. This is all on the leadership of the club – don’t let your Pathfinders and Adventurers down. Please see the points allocation table for more details.

Grow Large Sunflower (Adventurers)
Sunflowers are fast growing with a beautiful flowering head at the top at the end of the growing stage. Adventurers may enjoy measuring themselves against the growing plant on a daily basis then measuring their parents against the plant when the plan has passed their height. Parents can use sunflowers to explain all about the different stages of a plant’s life. We will supply a couple sunflower seeds to all Area8 Adventurers and have a Sunflower growing competition. Let’s see who will grow the tallest Sunflower and the widest Sunflower head.
Grow Own Food
Each pathfinder and adventurer must grow a fruit or vegetable from seed! This is going to be a big challenge but one to which we are hoping each club will rise. 2020 may have hinted that the end of time is nigh, and we would not have properly equipped out pathfinders and adventurers for end times if we haven’t taught them how to grow their own food. Get someone from your church to help or use YouTube or take them to an allotment – It doesn’t matter how they learn but get each child to grow a fruit or vegetable.
Points Allocation: Points will be awarded on a percentage basis as follow:
- % of club to plant from seed but didn't get to harvest
- % of club to plant from seed and get to harvest
Judging: We will need 3 photos of each child with their produce as follow:
- Photo 1: showing child next to plant as it germinates.
- Photo 2: showing child and a plant with lots of foliage.
- Photo 3: showing child and a plat with produce ready to be harvested.
More photos can be supplied but the above three are the minimum requirements to get full points.
